With skills being honed during his teen years during his apprenticeship with noted Danish cabinetmaker H. F. Stahlberg and eventually at the Architectural Academy in Copenhagen Wegner’s regard for fine craftsmanship is evident in all of his pieces, with particular attention paid to fine materials and exquisite joinery.

Working in a style some have labeled ‘Organic Functionality’ (a school of Modernism that emphasized functionality and included notable adherents such as Poul Henningsen, Alvar Aalto, and Arne Jacobsen) Hans Wegner designed over 500 chairs during his career with more than 100 of them put into production. Many of these chairs are now considered icons of Modern design.
